Packing is always a nightmare. –Stefanie Powers
Moving is hard thing and packing just makes it harder. The feeling of packing your whole house is just overwhelming that sometimes you don’t know where to start.
Some people would just hire others to do all the packing but it’s really quite different if you do it yourself. I mean, you would know which is which when you finally do some unpacking at your new home.
It’s a tedious process but, here are some easy guidelines that could help you keep your sanity before your move.
The Earlier, The Better
Procrastinating doesn’t really help and packing in a rush would just result into a big mess. Packing is a long process, considering that you have items in each room of your home. Have time to spend a day per room to make sure that you properly organized your items. This is really important because you can have enough time to sort out through your items.
Learn the Art of Disposing
This is where you need to choose your needs over your wants. Go through all your items and sort those that you really need. Old items that you seldom use can be thrown away, donated or sold unless they have an emotional value to them. A garage sale can help you attain more money for your moving expenses and can lessen the overall weight of your to-be-moved items.
Try to also consider the area of your new living space. Would your bulky furniture fit in?
Label Like A Boss
Labels are really lifesavers especially when you do some unpacking in your new home. You could label each box according to which room it belongs to. If you can be a bit more detailed, you could write down the specific name of the items because you might have more then one boxes for each room. Avoid overusing the “miscellaneous” label because you would just find yourself confused with a lot of boxes with the same labels.
You can also try to color code each room if you want.
Make A List
Make a list of all the items that goes on the moving truck. This is really important to keep track of any lost or damaged items during the move. There are some instances that some boxes don’t reach their destination and get “lost”. By having a list, you could be more careful of your personal belongings.
Keep Your Valuables
Never put your valuables such as jewelry into the moving truck. Keep your valuable items with you. Also, you need to make sure that your important documents are with you. replacing those documents are quite complicated and you can risk yourself in falling prey to identity theft.
Packing is complicated but once you have created a plan on what you need to do, it will just be a breeze.
“There is always a sadness about packing. I guess you wonder if where you’re going is as good as where you’ve been.” ― Richard Proenneke,
